A brand new running event is coming to Ste. Anne

The Ste. Anne Rock & Run is taking place on May 26th and has runs for all ages.

They have a 1km Mighty Tykes run starting at 8:30am, which parents will be able to watch.

Then they will get into the 5km and 10km start around 8:45am.

Organizer Jessica Jolicouer says any extra funds they receive will be donated to the local food bank.

“And we are also asking every participant to bring a canned good if they can.”

Boston Pizza will be there giving everyone a pizza slice, Supplement King will be there with the hydration station. We have Perk Coffee, Booster Juice, Crank Energy Bars will be giving bars.”

Lilac Resort is their gold sponsor, and they will be at the water table handing out water.

“We also want to thank all of our other sponsors, we have many.”

This event has been in the works for a while now.

“Thankfully I have the help of my friend Vanessa. She's been great, we've been a great team putting this on. We've been talking about it for over a year, it's been a lot of work, but it's coming together.”

Jolicouer loves to run, and recently got approved to run the Chicago Marathon in October.

“My partner and I and a friend. So we're very excited for that. But I've been into running for the past seven years now.”

She explains she has always wanted to bring a running event to town.

“Vanessa Petsch, I heard she was interested, so we just teamed up and thought why not bring this and get everyone active, and then also raise money for a good cause,” she says. “We just thought, why not bring something closer to home instead of always traveling out and running?”

The Ste. Anne Rock and Run is in need of volunteers.

They are looking for people to watch the streets, direct, and hand out food at the end.

“We are also looking for cheerleaders along the course, that would be awesome to have people cheering everyone on.”

She says the Ste. Anne Rock and Run is open to everyone, even if you are a brand new runner.

“Everyone's at different levels, and if you have to walk a bit, it's not a big deal, just try your best and do what you can,” she say. “We have a bunch of families signed up, and a lot of people I think will be walking a bit, so at any level you're good to run the 5K.”

The event starts at 8am at the pavilion at 6 Terrier Rd. in Ste. Anne on Sunday, May 26th.

To register, sign up through the race roster on Ste. Anne Rock and Run’s online page. Registration closes on April 30th.

A free t-shirt and a medal is included with all 5km and 10km registrations.
