Planning is well underway for Steinbach to soon be filled with bright flowers in hanging baskets and flower beds.

Beautification Supervisor Mallory Bartel gives us a sneak peek into the plans for the hanging baskets.

“I have seven different colour recipes and they’re going to alternate down all the posts. So, lots of bright color.”

As for the flower beds at City Hall, Bartel says we will see lots of height.

“And it's going to be a bit of an English Garden style, random plotting.”

The large flower bed at K.R. Barkman Park will have 28 different plants.

She says the city will put in just over 6,000 plants in the flower beds this year. With that many plants to work with, Bartel had to get her floral plans together last year.

“I use a program on the computer to help me plan everything. I just go with what I'm feeling and what I like. And then year-to-year, I just take what works and what doesn't and try new stuff.”

She usually has between eight and nine people helping her execute the beautification plan.

Bartel expects to start putting out the flower baskets around the end of May, followed by planting the flower beds.

Although she says there isn’t a specific theme for the colour scheme this year, one could say it’s “Bright and Beautiful.”
