It's a big week in Brandon, with the Manitoba AG EX underway for another year.

The show kicked off Wednesday with the Taste of Beef event at the Canad Inns Roadhouse.

Ron Kristjansson is the general manager of the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba.

He says part of their mandate is to teach youth about agriculture.

"We work with the school groups, we do a real focus on our junior exhibitors. It's a huge part of all our cattle shows, particularly this one. Most of the day Saturday is junior shows and all about the kids. [As with] any industry, the future is in our next generation and to me it looks like the future is in good hands."

The Manitoba Finals Rodeo gets underway tonight at the Westman Place Main Arena, located in the Keystone Centre. Other events include the Manitoba Superhorse 50/50, NAERIC Barrels of Cash, Hagan Performance & Ranch Horses, Fall Classic Ranch Sorting and the Manitoba Bucking Stock Futurity.

Kristjansson is expecting to see around 700 head of cattle participate during this year's AG EX, with up to 300 horses plus rodeo stock also participating.

Admission to the daily shows and sales is free until 6 PM.

The Manitoba AG EX is the province's largest all breeds cattle show.
