Quiring is from Riverview, N.B. and Shetler Fast is from Pittsburgh, Pa. (MCC photo/Paul Shetler Fast)assessment team is also working to determine longer-term needs.

The response in Haiti will continue to unfold in the coming days and weeks as the impact of the storm becomes clearer, and today MCC Director of Disaster Response Bruce Guenther joins to talk more about the scene left after the category 4 storm.

Estimates suggest nearly 1,000 people have now died in Haiti as a result of Hurricane Matthew, with 1.4 million people in need of immediate humanitarian assistance.

Bruce tells us this will be a long-term response.

The water purification tablets that MCC distributed were “a blessing,” he said, because the flooding had affected the drinking water in the community wells. (MCC photo/Paul Shetler Fast)
