New unwrapped toys are being collected at Superstore and Canadian Tire for Community Christmas hampers

Community Christmas's toys days campaign kicked off on Wednesday morning. Both local radio stations AM 1250 and Mix 96.7 FM are broadcasting live from Canadian Tire and Superstore in Steinbach until Thursday evening.

The initiative is to collect as many toys as possible for less fortunate children in the southeast that might not find a gift under their tree otherwise. Bonnie Koop from Community Christmas says they hand out around 900 hampers to families each Christmas which includes toys for the children in those families. Last year thanks to Toys Days the charity didn't have to purchase any toys because of the large amount of donations.

"Toys Days is a huge part of how we get enough toys...This is perfect timing as the first hampers go out on Friday. We'll be wrapping like crazy after this".

She says Community Christmas is exactly what it is; a community working together to make sure every child has a present for Christmas.

Koop adds that if you can't make it to either of the locations Wednesday or Thursday you can donate online and they will buy the toys for you.
