The federal government has announced nearly half a million dollars in funding for the Rural Municipality of Hanover.

Provencher Member of Parliament Ted Falk Friday promised $484,000 in order for Hanover to put in another lift station and force main in Blumenort.

"This is certainly big news for Hanover and Blumenort," says Reeve Stan Toews. "Because we have a couple of people waiting there to do more residential development, so we will need that to move forward."

The total cost of the project is slightly less than $1.5 million. The federal component is maxed at one-third of the project's cost. The municipality has also received a commitment from the province to cover the remaining third. Hanover's portion will come from Blumenort's Utility Reserve and a local improvement debenture on the Blumenort Utility. Also, developers who will be connecting to this new force main will be contributing back to the utility's reserve as their contribution to this project. The community of Blumenort is currently debt free.

According to Toews, Blumenort's existing lift station is maxed out. The new force main will go on the south end of Blumenort, heading north towards the lagoon.

"That means that community can grow," he says. "It has not been stunted because of this but we are trying to prevent stunting as well."

Toews says the ground will probably be frozen by the time the final engineering is complete. As a result, this project will likely commence next year.
