For their second weekend of the 2016 Holiday season, 43 Operation Red Nose volunteers provided 55 safe rides.

Joanne Vielfaure-Ramoaniuk is on the parent council at Ecole St. Joachim in La Broquerie, the group that brought ORN to the Southeast. She says more people are becoming aware of the free service, and are starting to know what to expect when they call.

She says what fascinates her most is the number of people volunteering with the desire to make a difference. "We really didn't know what to expect, even though we were all familiar with ORN. We didn't know how the community would respond, especially with the volunteers. Literally, it's random people from the Southeast who just want to give back and pay it forward."

Vielfaure-Ramoaniuk says they have groups from different local businesses including EMS and RCMP volunteering, as well as couples, parents with their kids and individuals from the community. "For me, that has to be the most rewarding part, to see people engaging with the community. It's been fun to see."

This weekend, just over $1,100 was raised from donations. Vielfaure-Ramoaniuk says because of generous sponsors, 100% of the donations given to ORN will go towards community improvement projects put on by the PAC at Ecole St. Joachim. "We average between $400 and $700 each night depending on how many calls we get. That's where sponsorship is key for us so we can put our dollars back into savings."

Vielfaure-Romaniuk says ORN is a community project,it's all about giving back while promoting the school at the same time.
