Provencher MP Ted Falk was part of a Canadian delegation which flew to Washington, D.C. last week to participate in the National Prayer Breakfast. He says about 3,500 politicians were in attendance from around the world. Falk says all of the speakers, including president Barack Obama, focused on a message of respect and unity among politicians who share a faith in God.

"All communicated, when we pray together, we work differently together even though, ideologically, we may be on complete opposite ends of the spectrum. There was a real sense of unity and that was the theme this year, 'Coming Together in the Spirit of Jesus'. President Obama spoke on that theme as well and his two points were first of all, loving God and the second one, loving each other."

Falk says he had a chance to meet a number of politicians at the event including Ben Carson who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination. He adds it was a special experience to take part in the prayer breakfast and he sensed a special bond among politicians of faith.

"It was interesting because many members who spoke at this event indicated how, once they pray together as Democrats and Republicans or opposition members, the debates are generally much softer than what they would have been had they not done that, much more respectful as well."
