Operation Red Nose Volunteers will be out and about this weekend.

Volunteer Coordinator Yvette Chartier says the evenings of November 25 and 26 are the first nights to start the holiday season and they could use a few more volunteers for Saturday evening. "We have lots of volunteers for Friday but we don't have enough on Saturday. December 9, we'll need a few more and we also have lots of room for people to volunteer December 30 and 31."

Chartier says their busiest night of the year is always New Year's Eve, and her first experience in volunteering was that night last year.  Since then, she's become the volunteer coordinator. "It was lots of fun, we had had a lot of laughs and it was great."

She says, teams of three or four go out together in a pilot vehicle to pick up the person or group of people that call ORN, then two people from that team join the client in their vehicle to drive them safely to their destination. Chartier says along with teams of volunteer drivers, they also look for people to answer phones to dispatch them.

Chartier says they want to make sure the roads are a little safer during the holidays, and there are several reasons for people to use the service provided by ORN, including fatigue and the weather.
