People attending the Pioneer Days parade in Steinbach this Friday are asked to bring a tin of non-perishable food for Southeast Helping Hands. Hank Klassen, executive director of the food bank, says food donations will be part of the parade.

"We teamed up with Farm Credit Canada. They're going to bring a tractor and a trailer and the (Southeast) Thistles (rugby team) are going to help us push the shopping carts as well as church youth. Bring a tin for the bin on parade day."

Klassen says the shelves at the food bank are pretty bare and they need enough donations to carry them through until their fall food drive. He notes 265 families rely on the food bank and each family has an average of 4.5 people which means they have about 12 hundred mouths to feed on a regular basis.
