Four out of five volleyball matches were won by the Providence Pilots in Alberta last weekend with the fifth game a 3-1 loss to the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) men's team.

This came after a 3-1 victory over the University of Alberta Augustana and a 3-1 defeat of Concordia University of Edmonton.

“I was very pleased with how we played—these being our first games of the season,” says head coach and Providence Director of Athletics Scott Masterson. “There are a lot of great things about this team that we will be able to build on for the rest of the year.”

Second-year left side Adrian Dyck led the way with a combined 35 kills, and first-year setter Pierce Dresser contributed 96 assists.

Meanwhile, the women's Pilots team had a 6-0 record and saw back-to-back victories over the University of Alberta Augustana. Due to these victories their National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) standing rose from fourth place to third.

“We won these matches against a tough opponent and I’m proud of how we are coming together as a team early in the season,” analyzed head coach Kyle Guenther.

Third-year right side LaRae Driedger executed 25 kills over the two matches—3-0 and 3-2 wins—and second-year libero Caroline Seale added 29 digs.Next for the men's volleyball team is a return to Alberta to compete in four additional matches September 30 to October 1. The women's team will host the Providence Invitational Tournament from September 30 to October 2.
