Steinbach Arts Council Board Chair Francis Funk has stepped down.

Funk says she will continue to be a part of the board, but will no longer be in the leadership position. As a result, former Vice-Chair Graham Pollock has been appointed Chair of the arts council board. Funk notes, her hope for the Steinbach Arts Council is for them to continue to grow.

"The upcoming Performing Arts Centre is going to be the highlight. It was something that was a highlight when I was on the Portage La Prairie board, and that came to fruition while I was still there. I certainly hope to still be here when it comes to fruition in Steinbach."

Pollock says the Performing Arts Centre is becoming more and more of a reality, and it's an exciting time for the arts community.

"This project is one of the biggest projects, obviously, that has been undertaken and is going to benefit the whole Southeast area. So, it's an exciting time to be involved with that process."

Pollock adds, during his two-year term as Chair, along with the construction of the Performing Arts Centre, he would also like to see their programming reach more people, especially to involve more young people in the arts.

During the annual general meeting Wednesday night, it was noted their goals for the next year are to expand the Arts4Tots and Backyard Theatre Company programs, bring the local performers who are featured in the Wininpeg Fringe Festival to Steinbach in a Family Fringe Day, increase rental revenue, and seek funds from the private sector for the Performing Arts Centre.
