Three projects within the Rural Municipality of Hanover have been approved for funding through the Community Places program.

Lisa Baldwin is Manager of Recreation and Community Services for Hanover. She says Mitchell Community Centre is receiving $20,000 for development of Amberfield Park. This is a project that will cost about $100,000. She notes the space is located south of Highway 52. Two empty lots will be converted into a natural playground.

Baldwin says research shows this sort of playground will promote social and cognitive development.

"It's really great work and the Mitchell group there has done a lot of work to gather some feedback from the community," notes Baldwin.

The Kleefeld Recreation Association is getting $15,000 for upgrades to their Recreation Centre. This project has a price tag of about $75,000.

"There was a number of critical repairs that were identified, as well as they are trying to make the facility a little bit more accessible to all residents," says Baldwin. "So they are doing some work in the washrooms and in the entrance ways and stuff like that to make it a more accessible space."

And in Blumenort, the Recreation Association has received $10,000 for park upgrades. The upgrades are for the playground, which is in need of repairs. The total cost of that project is not known.

According to Baldwin, all three projects should be completed by the end of summer. She notes they have wonderful volunteers who work very hard in their communities, but these sort of projects would not be possible if not for the help of provincial and federal funding.
