The Hanover Community Development Corporation is looking to do a study on economic development in the municipality.

Reeve Stan Toews says the Rural Municipality of Ritchot has approached Hanover in teaming up through a Partners 4 Growth Study.

"This is on a study to promote local business and entice more business into your area," notes Toews. "If we're successful we get a grant from the provincial government, but it has to be two municipalities working together."

Toews says Ritchot feels the two municipalities are very similar and would make good partners.

"They have four communities, we have five communities and there is a lot of business in each community," notes Toews. "We're fairly similar in that sense."

The proposal now has to go to the province for approval. The Hanover Community Development Corporation has set a limit of $15,000 they would like to spend on the study. Toews notes if approved, the grant would be worth $15,000, though shared with Ritchot.

Toews says a study like this will help develop an inventory of existing businesses, determine what the potential is for new business and help to prevent businesses from leaving the municipality.
