Council for the Rural Municipality of Hanover has again set its top priorities as requested by Manitoba Water Services Board.

The Board has announced funding opportunities through its Five Year Core Infrastructure Renewal Plan and has asked Hanover to submit requests for funding.

Reeve Stan Toews says their number one priority is upgrades to Grunthal lift station #1.

"We have a developer there that would like to develop a bunch of lots," explains Toews. "And so we need this for them to proceed."

Current growth in Grunthal is causing the system to reach its maximum capacity. The upgrade will allow for continued growth.

Hanover's second priority is expansion of New Bothwell's aeration and lagoon. An increase in industry production has forced the need for upgrades.

Toews says priority number three is a new lift station and force main for Mitchell. Current growth means system maximums and force main capacities are being reached.

And priority number four is water main improvements along Kleefeld's First, Second and Third Streets. The current water mains do not have the capacity for adequate fire suppression.

Toews says some of these projects have been priorities in past years for Hanover, though they do switch around the order from time to time. He notes to some degree the province will take to heart the list, but Toews says Hanover hasn't been very successful in recent years in receiving much funding.
