The head professional at the Links at Quarry Oaks put a plan in place in 2015 that he thought in the long run would benefit the golf course.

It was a common sense plan.

Get youngsters to pick up a golf club and fall in love with the game.

Because Robin Henderson knows full well if you get the kids on the golf course – the parents will soon follow.

“Last year we had our family rates after 6 p.m. and that just exploded,” said Henderson. “Our junior program - we're over 180 kids signed up so we've increased that by over 100%. When you get the kids involved and they come out here and they play for the first time - they see how much fun it is and it just builds.”

“When you get the kids, you get the parents and that's one thing we're going to be gearing towards now. We're doing a get ready for golf program which is geared towards the parents of the kids to get them involved so I'm excited about that."

Business was good at the 27-hole layout near Steinbach in 2015.

The Quarry Oaks head pro stated last fall that they were up a little over 3,000 rounds from 2014.

Henderson, who along with greens superintendent Wilf Peters, has been at Quarry since the course opened in the summer of 1992, is thrilled to begin their 25th season and keep building on that momentum.

"It's always great to get started. You've worked hard all winter to get certain things in place and now finally we get to see some golfers and of course get the cash flow. It's nice to see the grass turning green and the excitement in everyone's faces.”

“You get all your new young employees coming out here and that's always fun to see,” added Henderson. “I think I calculated that we probably had about over 2,000 people work here in the time that I've been here so that's pretty cool."
