The musical production of High School Musical is coming to the Steinbach Regional Secondary School in December.

Director Waldy Ens says the cast of 43 students have been rehearsing and reading through lines since mid-September.

"We started by doing a read through with the whole cast and then we did some character studies and we worked on lines and eventually were blocking things out,"

Actors perfecting scenes during rehearsal.notes Ens. "We started choreography and we've been staging. We've also been doing a lot of singing rehearsals."

Ens says with the last full week of rehearsals upon them, it feels as if it's coming down to the wire and the panic and anxiety is starting to set in. He says time always feels tight at this time in a production but knows everything will come together. He adds there are a few unique aspects of this musical as well.

"Because this musical was written originally for television the scenes are shorter and there's more back and forth transitions, I would say, than in a musical that's written for the stage. Another thing that's different is that as well as dancing the actors are singing while they're dancing, which is a little bit more difficult."

Ens says audience members can look forward to seeing a lot of familiar elements on stage as well as a live band.

Tickets are available by calling the SRSS office. The production runs from December 2 to 5.
