La Broquerie Council has approved a plan to build a seven unit multi-family complex at 146 Principale Street.

Reeve Lewis Weiss says a local developer put forward a proposal to build a sevenplex across from Arborgate School. He says they held a public hearing and there was some opposition from a neighbour.

“A lot of residents in the area received letters that they can come to the public hearing or submit a letter if they are opposed to it. Unfortunately only one showed up.”

Weiss says there were around 15 people that attended the meeting that were in support of building the complex, and nine of them addressed council. He notes the man who was opposed to the building owns an adjacent property and was concerned about sight lines into his back yard. He adds they also received a letter of opposition from the LUD.

“There was a letter from the LUD representatives opposing the idea and there was one resident here as well and he had an objection with an idea that if the building could be moved a little bit easterly he would be fine with that. Council voted on it and majority were in favour of doing the complex.”

Weiss says Council voted to move forward with the project under the condition that the building be build far enough back so that it is less intrusive on neighbouring properties.
