The La Broquerie Fire Department was called out Wednesday night and again Thursday morning due to a lightning strike in the thunderstorms that hit the region Wednesday evening. Fire Chief Alain Nadeau says they initially got the call around 10:30 p.m. that a tree had fallen across a hydro line along Provincial Road 302, about seven miles south of La Broquerie. He says Manitoba Hydro was contacted to handle the situation. But hydro crews have been overwhelmed by calls and, as of Thursday morning, had not been able to attend. Nadeau says they were called back to the scene at 7:20 a.m. Thursday after the tree caught fire. He adds the fire is now out.
