Jeff Neufeld and his wife were on their way back to Steinbach from Winnipeg last Saturday when they came across the horrific head-on crash on Highway 52 that claimed the life of one man.  Without regard for his own safety, Jeff quickly ran towards a partially burning truck to help other bystanders carry the driver of that vehicle to safety.  The driver's wife meantime, had already managed to escape.  Within a minute or two, the entire truck was engulfed in flames.

While Jeff's actions and those of the others who aided in the rescue were heroic, Jeff doesn't see himself as a hero.

"You know that if you were there you'd want help.  There's lots of people who would do that in an emergency.  People will step up - they don't care who's in the vehicle.  They don't care if it's a friend, they don't care if it's a stranger.  You need to go and help, and that's the community we live in.  And I think despite all the bad news we hear, by and large that's the world we live in."

Friends and family of the husband and wife who survived the crash have started a Go Fund Me page to help offset costs while they recover.  To donate, click here.
