Construction activity in Steinbach continued to increase in May. Mayor Chris Goertzen told city council Tuesday that the value of building permits climbed significantly last month.

Sod-turning for the Bethesda Primary Care Centre, the largest building permit issued in May."$10.35 million worth of permits were issued. We have almost $22.5 million of permits so far this year. For the end of May, I think that's an excellent start. We continue to hear about a lot of what's going to be happening so it's really good to see the economy doing well here in Steinbach."

The largest permit in May was for $8.7 million for the Bethesda Primary Care Centre. There were three housing starts in May and a number of permits were issued for renovations and additions to homes and businesses in the community.
