The Local Urban District committee of Mitchell has decided not to use Steinbach Security Services for this year.

Hanover Councillor Bernie Stahn says they have used Steinbach Security Services to patrol the streets of Mitchell for about the last three years. But the decision was made to drop that contract.

"We noticed that incidents have gone down over the last few years in Mitchell," notes Stahn, explaining the rationale behind this decision.

Stahn says in years past, the LUD has spent about $20,000 per year for the service. The fee was based on the number of hours spent per night and the number of days per week in which Steinbach Security Services would patrol the streets of Mitchell.

The LUD committee has decided to still set aside $15,000 this year, just in case.

"They've set aside the money to do it but are going to see how the summer goes," notes Stahn. "If they do need to do it, they do have the funds set aside for that and can react to that."
