Work could start as early as next week on three street projects in the community of Mitchell.

Rob Driedger is Manager of Engineering and Utilities for the Rural Municipality of Hanover. He says along Oakview Avenue and Willow Street the plan is to provide a three inch asphalt overlay. And on Centre Street North between Highway 52 and Pinehurst Lane, the plan is for a full reconstruction, including a three inch asphalt surface.

The work will be done by Bituminex Paving of Winnipeg. Driedger notes estimates came in at $270,000, and Bituminex received the contract for about $230,000.

"As soon as even next week, they might be starting to mobilize some of their crew," says Driedger. "And with weather conditions holding out, the hope is to have all three streets finished and paved by the end of May."

Driedger notes this will be one of the first projects of the year for Bituminex and they would like to start as soon as road restrictions are such that they can mobilize in full capacity.

The Oakview and Willow projects will result in temporary interruptions for homeowners there wanting to access their driveway. Driedger notes interruptions there could be half a day. But for Centre Street North, because it is a full reconstruction project, Driedger says it will be quite restricted for a good portion of time.
