Steinbach city council met in committee Tuesday night in an effort to come up with final recommendations to change its Zoning By-Law regarding temporary signs. Mayor Chris Goertzen says they did not make a final decision because more information is needed. He explains one of the key issues involves the current by-law requirement that limits the size of signs in the downtown business area to no larger than three feet by five feet.

"That's not the normal type of sign that is used in our community. (That is nine feet by ten feet). We also want to make sure that Steinbach is aesthetically pleasing by not having too many large signs in the downtown area. That's something we're going to be looking at closely to make sure that we come up with a good solution."

Goertzen says council has asked the administration to look at this one more time and to bring back recommendations that reflect the concerns of the business community yet making sure that Steinbach is an aesthetically pleasing community. He adds those recommendations will come forward in the coming weeks.
