The City of Steinbach will make no special traffic provisions for Pioneer Days this weekend despite the fact there is construction on Highway #12 at both ends of the city. Phil Kalyta, head engineer, says there's not much that can be done because both projects, at Park Road and at Madison Drive, are about halfway to completion.

"We're concentrating on keeping the traffic flow safe. Pioneer Days brings some extra traffic but on any day it's busy on Highway #12 anyway."

Elsewhere, Kalyta notes they did delay excavation of Lumber Avenue, north of Main Street until after the Steinbach Credit Union grand opening and Pioneer Days. He adds that work is slated to begin next week.

"Main Street traffic will not be affected but the Lumber (traffic) will. Lumber will have some closures required to do our work. We have to put in some storm sewers, replace fire hydrants and then pave that section of Lumber."
