Over 120 artists are a part of the 2016 Southeast Open Judged Exhibit at the Steinbach Arts Council.

Visual Arts Coordinator Jolene Broesky says artists starting at the age of five can enter a piece into the exhibit and, in each category, awards are given as first place, second place, and honourable mention.

Exhibit attendees browsing the over 120 art pieces on display."They get to meet other, more advanced artists and get to exchange stories, tips and just ask questions about how they got started," notes Broesky. "The Steinbach and southeast region is the biggest arts community, so it's a chance for all emerging, young, amateur artists to come out and be part of something that most communities wouldn't have the chance to."

The 'People's Choice Award' was awarded to Danielle Hiebert for her piece entitled Indiana Jones.

"I've always loved Indiana Jones growing up," says Hiebert. "There was talk of the next movie coming out with him and I just though it was something that really stuck out to me and I wanted to give it a shot. I'm beyond excited [to have won the 'People's Choice Award' for the second year in a row]. I'm excited and extremely honoured by the support I get from my friends and family. It means so much to me."

Hiebert notes the piece took her over 40 hours to complete.

The exhibit will remain open to the public until May 18.
