On Tuesday night, the Steinbach Pistons pushed game 3 of the MJHL finals to overtime but it was the visiting Winkler Flyers that scored in the extra frame, giving them a 3-0 series lead.

Steinbach wanted to come out strong in the opening period and push the pace of the game. They managed to do that, helping generate several good chances while keeping the Flyers from getting set up in the offensive zone.

In the later stages of the first period, great work down low by Pistons forwards Grady Hoffman and Sam Noad worked the puck free before Hoffman zipped a pass to David Cote at the blueline. Cote put a puck towards the net that was expertly deflected by Leo Chambers for his 6th of the playoffs, giving Steinbach a 1-0 lead.

Winkler pushed to find the equalizer before the period came to an end but Cole Plowman stood tall, keeping the Pistons up 1-0 heading into the break.

In the second, a defensive zone breakdown left a Flyers forward all alone in front and he made no mistake tucking home the 1-1 goal.

It looked as though Steinbach had scored to take the lead on a power play but the officials failed to notice the net was off for a period of time prior to the goal being scored. By the time they did notice, Steinbach had scored but they ruled it no-goal.

Winkler would capitalize on their good forturne by scoring to to take a 2-1 lead.

Before the period expired, Trey Sauder, the player who had the goal taken away earlier, would get some sort of revenge as the 20-year-old tipped a Kirk Mullen shot home for his 4th of the season. The play was made possible thanks to some great work by Parker Jasper, who picked up an assist after keeping the puck in at the blueline.

The 2-2 score would not make it to the second intermission.

Another great follow-up shift by the Flyers hemmed Steinbach in the defensive zone. After Plowman bailed out his team by making a save and covering the puck, the ensuing face-off went the way of Winkler and they buried a rebound with just 7 seconds left in the period to take a 3-2 lead.

Steinbach refused to quit.

Just over two minutes into the third, Jack Cook wired a shot from the point that found it's way through traffic and in for his 2nd of the playoffs. Sauder collected his second point of the night after winning the faceoff back to Cook who tied the game 3-3.

Both teams had chances throughout the third period but time ran out and for the first time in the MJHL finals, the teams were headed to overtime.

In the extra frame, Steinbach took a boarding penalty giving the Flyers a great opportunity to end it.

Thanks to some strong penalty killing, the Pistons managed to get through and return the game to 5 on 5.

Winkler would end the game after a strong move to the net produced a rebound where the Flyers forward beat the Pistons defender to the puck and knocked it home putting Steinbach on the brink, down 3-0 in the series.

Plowman did all he could making 28 saves on the night.

The power play for Steinbach was 1/3 while the penalty kill was strong, especially in overtime, going 3/3.

Game 4 is set for Friday night in Winkler.
