Residents living in the Ste. Anne and Dufresne areas will want to take note of a planned power outage happening this weekend.

Riley McDonald with Manitoba Hydro says it is scheduled to begin Sunday at 11 pm and last until Monday at 3 am.

"We are going to work as quickly and safely as possible to get it done within that time frame," he adds.

McDonald says approximately 1,000 customers will be impacted by the outage.

He explains the purpose of the planned outage is twofold. First of all, McDonald says the outage will allow Hydro crews to make some equipment repairs, while also erecting two new poles for a daycare.

"So, it's a bit about expansion, but it's also a bit about preventative maintenance," notes McDonald. "By taking this outage we're not only planning for expansion and growth in the future, we're also preventing longer prolonged outages in the future."

Meanwhile, he says Manitoba Hydro appreciates in advance the patience of customers on this matter. He notes they normally try and plan outages for times that are the least disruptive.

His request is that any motorist passing their crews during those hours slow down and be careful.
