It seems like only yesterday that it was announced Steinbach would host the 2016 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games which takes place Aug. 7th-13th and will have over 1,800 participants and need 1,000 volunteers.

Jen Leake and Bree Langlais stopped by MIX 96 this morning and gave the number of volunteers needed for the upcoming games. "500 more." Jen said with a smile and though it may seem daunting, Jen is not too worried. "It seems like a big number but every single day people are signing up. You can sign up online from the comfort of your home, very easy so you can always do that. 500 sounds huge but we are working our way through it and it's awesome."

Being at the half way point of volunteers needed has Bree very happy. "It's exciting and the response has been great. For the 500 that have signed up, the excitement level is great. They come in the office and ask when they get their schedule and a lot of people are coming in to ask what they can do before the games too which is great."

It's been a long process but for Jen it's been worth it "Everyone's so excited and it adds to the energy. I did an interview back in February of 2015 when I had just started and the games and planning had almost been in planning for 2 years before that. To see it all come together and all the hard work from people, I know it's going to be an awesome games just from the plans I've seen now."

There will be events at different locations across the Southeast and Bree explains you don't have to be just from Steinbach to volunteer. "There are no restrictions. We're looking all over. Even if parents of athletes want to volunteer on days when their child is not participating, we'd like that too."

You can sign up at ManitobaSummerGames.ca or head into the TG Smith.

"Volunteer." Jen and Bree both say with a laugh. "Get involved. This is something you want to be a part of."
