Winnipeg based Prairie Orchard Farms is expanding its line of naturally enriched Omega 3 products to include chicken.
President Willy Hoffmann notes poultry is a very popular meat, and it was felt they could add more value by enriching it with Omega 3 and Selenium.  He adds preliminary testing was conducted with the help of several Manitoba chicken farms already producing broilers.  It was shown poultry can be sufficiently enriched with Omega-3 fatty acids and Selenium after being fed a specialized diet.  Hoffmann says Canadian and United States label approvals are currently being sought for the Omega-3/Selenium chicken.  He's hoping to launch the new product line some time before the end of the year.  The production and processing of the chicken will initially be done in Manitoba.
