The Fire Chief for the RM of Hanover says they are keeping a close watch on ever drier conditions. Paul Wiebe says the Grunthal Fire Department dealt with a brush fire Sunday.

"We were called out to a grass fire just south of Grunthal yesterday afternoon. One of the local farmers was just burning a field. It was a legal fire that got away on him a bit and was heading towards some residences. So we were called in and we spent probably just under an hour and we had it under control almost immediately."

Wiebe adds the Kleefeld Fire Department had two grass fires Saturday. One was a legal, controlled burn south of Kleefeld that got out of control before it was extinguished by firefighters. The other was an illegal fire at a rural residential property south of Mitchell that had to be put out. Wiebe explains that changes to the Hanover Fire Bylaw ban all burning in rural residential areas and local urban districts unless the fire is in a proper fire pit.

Wiebe is keeping a close watch on the dry weather and says it's possible Hanover may soon have to implement an all out fire ban.

"If it becomes a problem, we would implement an all out fire ban and we'll probably evaluate that a little later on in the week but right now it's still manageable. But these can change within a day or two so we'll see how it goes."
