Snoman is offering free riding on its 12,000+ km trail system this Louis Riel Day Long Weekend.

Executive Director Yvonne Rideout says the idea is to give Manitoba's trail system more exposure and to promote snowmobiling.

She explains Sled Without Borders is also taking place this weekend in an effort to bring in riders from outside of the province.

"We've invited riders from other provinces and also the neighbouring states to come and enjoy the trails in Manitoba. They basically have to go on our website and get a weekend temporary pass that they can adhere to their sled and then they can ride our trails."

Rideout notes as of Tuesday, they already had 300 people registered for temporary passes.

Another bonus is that riders won't have to stop when they reach the Ontario border, as that province is also hosting its free weekend. A temporary permit is required.

Rideout notes Snoman memberships have been increasing over the past couple of years with 22,200 passes purchased last year. She hopes the Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Free Ride Weekend will help that trend continue into the future.
