In 1993, Christmas Day, Steve and Sherri Rooke were coming home from a Christmas celebration at Steve's parents house. It was around 10:30 and they noticed the fire trucks were out of the fire hall. Steve remembers saying "How terrible for someone to have a fire on Christmas Day". As they pulled onto their street, the trucks were there. They thought it was one of their neighbors. Then the shocking reality of seeing smoke coming out of their own house with fire trucks surrounding it.

Steve shared with us the long road of recovery from getting your day to day items looked after, dealing with insurance to replace everything, and the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder his wife went through for many years after.

It's Fire Prevention Week. Steve is a firefighter now and urges all of us to make sure our house is secure and your family is safe.
