The deadline for residents of Steinbach to pay their property taxes is today, September 30th. Brian Hrehirchuk is the Director of Finance for the city. He says the money being collected by the city includes both municipal taxes and Hanover school taxes.

Brian Hrehirchuk"The total taxes to be collected this year are approximately $28.7 million with about 46% or $13.1 million of that being municipal taxes. $15.6 million goes to the Hanover School Division and the province for education. This year's tax total is up about 6.5% over last year."

Hrehirchuk says that 6.5% increase in revenue is thanks to growth in the city.

The deadline to pay taxes is 4:00 Friday afternoon. The penalty for late payments is 1% per month. Hrehirchuk most people pay on time.

"It's been fairly good lately. Generally, between 85 and 90 percent are collected by the deadline and the more usually follow shortly thereafter. Generally, it's pretty good."

Taxes are also due today in the RM of La Broquerie.
