The Executive Director for Steinbach Family Resource Centre says they have just made it easier for people to make a donation to their High Five campaign.

Vicki Olatundun says they are hoping to raise between $5,000 - $10,000 in December through the campaign. But she says in 2016, they are looking for one thousand donors to make at least a

(Vicki Olatundun)$5 donation each month. If they achieve that, it would mean bringing in at least $60,000 next year.

Olatundun says donating to the campaign just got a whole lot easier because it can now be done via cell phone. Just text the numbers 20222 and then the words, Support Families and if it's a $5 donation you wish to make, that amount will be added to your monthly cell phone bill.

"All you have to do is just text that number, text those words, that's a high five to me and a high five back to you," says Olatundun.

According to Olatundun, the money will be used for general operations, but also to fund a road safety play park. She says this very unique play structure has the regular playground features but then also includes a perimeter track where children will learn road safety tips while driving their tricycle.

"There is nowhere else in south Eastman where you can teach a child how to cross the street apart from the street itself," she says. "The earlier they learn this the better. All I'm looking for is ten seconds. If I can get a child to stop for ten seconds as it puts its feet on the road, that may be the difference between life and death."

Olatundun says traffic events are the biggest killer of children under the age of ten.

The goal is to build the play park next summer and Olatundun says it has a price tag of approximately $125,000.

Meanwhile, the Centre is also accepting gently used coats as part of its Winter Warmers campaign. Olatundun says with the temperature dropping, they are getting more and more requests. She notes they are needing coats for kids aged 0 to 18.
