A spokesperson for Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation (MIT) says if all goes according to plan, there should be traffic lights up and running by Christmas at the Highway 59 and 311 intersection.

Area residents and politicians rallied last winter for intersection improvements following a two vehicle collision that sent three people to hospital with serious injuries. Then in June, the Minister of Transportation promised lights would be installed this summer.

Larry Halayko, Director of Contract Services with MIT says it won't be long before the project starts.

"Crews are going to be starting on the ground there hopefully in the next month here or so, installing some material along some sides there to hold the new signal poles," notes Halayko. "And then crews will be moving in after that, probably likely into October or so to start installing the new signals."

Halayko says it is his understanding these will be the regular traffic signals, that don't include flashing, turning lights.

This project has a price tag of about $375,000.
