Operation Red Nose is in it's third year of servicing the Steinbach and La Broquerie areas, and will be taking part in celebrating more than two million safe rides home across Canada.

Spokesperson Mariette Kirouac says they won't know for sure where that ride will be. “We will have a special night on November 28, somewhere in Canada Operation Red Nose will provide it's two millionth ride across Canada.”

Operation Red Nose will start up on November 27 and run for nine nights over the holiday season until New Year's Eve, except on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Kirouac says they offer a free service. “Not only is it a free service, we also bring your vehicle home. We want to keep the roads safe. This is not a taxi service, what we do is send a team of four people, two people will drive you and your vehicle home, and two people will follow in their own vehicle to bring the other two people back to the headquarters.”

Kirouac says the service is for anyone that has a vehicle and for any reason does not feel comfortable to drive home. Whether they are too tired, because of the road conditions or if they have celebrated too much.

Kirouac adds, that although the service is free, donations will be accepted. “The proceeds will go towards Phase 3 of a school/community park connecting the St. Joachim School to the La Broquerie Arena."

As far as volunteers go, Kirouac says eight of the nine evenings were filled a week ago. "The only night we need volunteers is on December 31. Last year we had 26 volunteers that night and we barely kept up, so this year we need to double those numbers to make sure everyone who calls us gets a safe ride home."

To volunteer on December 31 call 204-371-1018, and for a safe ride home over the holiday season call 204-424-9555.
