This has been a busy month for me -- sharing my Olympic story with schools and other groups. I visited the Rosenort Awana group this past Wednesday evening. You can see them singing in this picture. It was such fun and these kids are just excited about the Olympics... excited about learning their verses and learning more about God... and just all that good stuff!! So, here we are -- Day 6 of the Olympic games and I am watching CTV's coverage of the Olympics and they have Canadian fashioni guru Jeannie Becker on the show and she's talking about fashion and the Olympics. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the Norway Men's curling team and their pants, and saw a male figure skater from the USA -- Johnny Weir -- the outfit a little ruffly and pink... but can he ever skate!!  So, there's one angle on the Games... the fashion. More importantly, of course, are the performances and the effort. In fact, #1 for me is the effort that you KNOW they've put in -- not just for the past year but for many -- almost their whole lives!! So, many sports stories start from a very young age -- and to imagine that the moments we're witnessing at the Olympic games are moments that these athletes have been preparing for -- all that time. It's a little easier to understand the disappointment in defeat and the sheer exhiliration in victory. For these athletes it's not "just a game" at all... it's a lifetime of dreams and unbelievable work and effort. No wonder it's so emotional. Go Canada Go!! Michelle.

 

Champions - Jeff Stoughton and his amazing team!!

We had so much fun didn't we? Those of us who spent much of our weekend at the TG Smith Centre took in a great event!! Made possible by the volunteers of course. Big congratulations go out to co-chairs Wayne Pauls and Daryl Braun!! You made us proud again! A great curling event -- THE best male curlers in Manitoba - right here in Steinbach. And the final - couldn't have asked for better - even an extra end to decide the champion. It came down to the last shot and veteran Jeff Stoughton just wasn't going to miss. It was cool!! And I cheered even louder for Stoughton when he made a beeline for the sidelines after their win -- to kiss and hug his wife and daughter -- the support team who has stood behind his sporting aspirations for years... it was nice to see that he realizes that. I'm sure he said a big "thank you" again. It seemed like a very special moment. Way to go volunteers!! Sure hope you could rest yesterday. You deserve it!! Michelle.

 

The day could not have been more perfect!! It was warm and sunny... there was lots of snow to slide on... the hot dogs, smokies and farmer sausage burgers were freshly made and yummy, the sleigh ride was actually on a sleigh... and there were lots of families with skates on too. Thank you so much to Steinbach Parks and Rec for putting on their 7th Annual Winter Carvnial!! Now, we just need to get more people out!! Let's grow it every year! It's just a nice way to spend the day! Michelle.
