Pioneer Days and Frog Follies
The weather was picture perfect for Manitoba's festivals and fairs this past weekend, allowing us to enjoy the Icelandic Festival  at Giimli, the Austin Threshermen's Reunion, the outdoor production, Moses Prince and Hero of Egypt at LaRiviere outdoor theatre, and of course here at home, Pioneer Days in Steinbach and Frog Follies at St Pierre.  Mathew Zimmerman was our guy on location at both events and grabbed a camera to tell the story.  He joined us today on the AM 1250 morning show to share about the weekend

Kevin Geisheimer was on location today at Soebeys for 10% Tuesdays, and will be back in the studio tomorrow at 10.  Hope you get a chance to enjoy today, from a comfort of a hammock in the cool shade.  Michelle is on vacation, Jayme and I will be back at 6 Wednesday on AM 1250 Radio.

What a fantastic night!! From the schnettkje baking, to the blacksmith shop, to the storytime in the semlin, to the personally guided tour or the buildings AND behind the scenes by curator Roland Sawatzky, the wagon ride and then, to end the night with  our own freshly baked schnettkje, fresh roll kuchen and watermelon on the deck of the windmill... it doesn't get much better than that!! Congratulations to Shirley, Helamanie, Marilyn and Jennifer and their families -- our wonderful AM1250 listeners, winners and friends. We had such an amazing time!! We're already looking forward to next year :) And kind of neat to have been at the museum with such a small group knowing that this weekend it's going to be packed!! But there's something REALLY great about that too... perhaps we'll meet you there for Pioneer Days!!! Michelle.

Another busy weekend! Mon.July 26/10.
How was your weekend? That's the question of the day. In fact, that the question of every Monday isn't it? It was a busy Manitoba weekend -- for me, it was beach volleyball at the Maple Grove Rugby Park just off the south perimeter in Winnipeg. 155 teams sign up for this tournament and the entire thing is organized to raise money for the National Women's Volleyball team. It certainly was perfect weather for the event. It reminds me of the summers of my childhood when it's so sunny you're looking for water to swim in and shade to sit under. I LOVE that kind of day... especially when our summers are so short. So, if you can, put the hat on... get the sunscreen on... and have some fun. And if you can't -- it sure is nicer to walk into work, to the car, into the office, or to and from the grocery store on a beautiful day. Yeah, I'm trying really hard to see the cup half full there. Have a good one! Michelle.

Weekend plans? Fri.July 23/10.
This is a popular question.... what are you doing this weekend? This weekend there seems to be a lot of options. The Altona Sunflower Festival is always a fun place to be and they are happy about the sunshine this weekend. The Manitoba Stampede and Exhibition got majorly rained out yesterday -- but will be back at full strength for the rest of the weekend. The Neepawa Lily Festival is happening this weekend, Cheyenne Days in Ste. Agathe get underway as well, there's a great fundraiser at Market Square on Brandt Street on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. -- Moving Machanga Bike Rally and Hog Roast  and the list goes on and on. Maybe your weekend includes "getting away from it all" and heading to the cottage or campground. I'm spending my weekend at the Maple Grove Rugby park in Winnipeg -- NOT playing Rugby -- the Superspike Beach volleyball tournament is going on -- and my friends and I are defending champions -- yes, we're old, but we're feisty. :) Then, I can hardly wait to see all of my cousins at the Sawatzky golf tournament in MacGregor!! It's a great time to catch up! Whatever it is that's filling your calendar this weekend -- enjoy it! Michelle.

Summer Arts Day Camps - such a good idea! Wed.July 21/10.
OK... I forgot my camera... and I sure wish I hadn't. Whenever you're hanging out with a group of children between the ages of 5 and 10... you SHOULD carry a camera. Anyway, I had the opportunity of accompanying the group to the Mennonite Heritage Village in the afternoon. Our boys are taking part in the "Time Travel" week this week and they are having a GREAT time!! We took a look back at the Pioneer Days times... and they sure seemed to enjoy it. I think a highlight was when we were in the barn, calmly looking around, and a cat came BOUNDING out of the bales, shot across the floor in front of us, and jumped over the half door... WELL, there were cheers and running around... very cute!! The windmill is still a highlight as are the old schools as they try to imagine what it would have been like to be in the same class as some "really big kids". Thank you to the Steinbach Cultural Arts Centre for educating, entertaining and taking such good care of our precious kids. Hey, maybe you'd like to get your kids into one... just call them at 346.1077 and see if they've still got room. Worth a try. Have a great SUNNY day! Michelle.
