Emerson MLA Cliff Graydon says its unclear to him why the province is considering a bailout of the St. Joseph wind farm project. Finance Minister Rosann Wowchuk revealed this week that her department is negotiating with Pattern Energy on providing a subsidy to get the wind farm up and running. Graydon says he's not sure why the province would subsidize the project when it has the authority to order Manitoba Hydro to pay more for wind energy. He says, either way, Manitobans are the ones who end up paying for wind power, whether its through their taxes or through their hydro bill. Pattern Energy, the company spearheading the St. Joseph project, has indicated the global economic downturn has made it hard for them to secure financing. That's why the company has approached the provincial government for help with financing.
