All the red and white, all the excitement, all the work and organization and all the amazing staff... put it all together and you've got the Blumenort  Opening Ceremony and Kick off to "I Love to Read Month". Thanks to principal Ed Neufeld for asking me to be a part of it. I was honored. Reading is such an important thing - for life! And this year, with the Olympics in Canada, it's a great way to get the kids to have dreams and set goals for READING! One of the highlights of the ceremonies for me was when a whole line of kids went to the microphone, and in front of the whole school talked about their reading goals for the month of February. Most started their sentences with "I believe I can read...." and then filled in how many hours they were going to put in to reading every day. Very cool!! Speaking of cool -- they have arranged to have an assembly every week this month -- and reading and speaking to the kids will be Special Olympian Lenny Plett next week, Megan Imrie's mom, Marge the following week and then, Jared Funk will join them for their closing ceremonies at the end of the month. What a line-up!! What an effort by Blumenort school to make reading a BIG DEAL!! Thanks for having me.
