The Springfield Xtreme have moved into a third place tie in the Hanover-Tache Junior Hockey League with the Grunthal Red Wings. The Xtreme edged the Steinbach Huskies 4-3 in a shootout. Tanner Ziprick, Tim Horsley and Justin McLeod scored in regulation for Springfield while Tyrone Thiessen, Derek Levesque and Drew Friesen replied for the Huskies who are two points back of the fifth place Niverville Clippers.


The Eastman Selects won a pair of games in Thompson this past weekend. Brendan Edie stopped 27 shots as Eastman downed the Norman Northstars 4-1 on Sunday. Tyson Stoesz, Brendan Harms, Dylan Reimer and Tim Beck did the goal scoring for the Selects who beat the Northstars 7-1 on Saturday. Eastman will face the Interlake Lightning in Beausejour on Friday and then play their regular season finale Saturday in Kenora against the Thistles. The Selects are 27-13-0-2 and have a first round bye in the Manitoba "AAA" Midget Hockey League playoffs.


Winnipeg's Jennifer Jones, Cathy Overton-Clapham, Jill Officer and Dawn Askin have won their third straight Canadian Women's Curling title. Jones and company rallied from a 6-3 deficit and beat Kathy O'Rourke of Prince Edward Island 8-7 in an extra end in the final of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Jones got back in the game with two in the 7th and then stole one in the 8th and two in the 9th. Jones joins Colleen Jones and Vera Pezer as the only skips to win three straight Scotties. The 2010 World Women's Curling Championship will be held March 20th-28th in Swift Current.


Scott Barenz of Charleswood and Kelly Robertson of Neepawa qualified for the 2010 Provincial Mixed Curling Championship as they won the two spots at the Mixed Berth Bonspiel at the Neepawa Curling Club. Barenz beat Jared Kolomaya of the Northen Interlake Curling Club 8-3 while Robertson downed Richard Muntain of Lac du Bonnet 11-5. The Provincial Mixed Championship will be held March 25th-29th in Stonewall.
