| Steinbach MLA Monitoring Clean Environment Hearings |

| Steinbach MLA Kelvin Goertzen will pay close attention to Manitoba Clean Environment Commission hearings this week at the Friedensfeld Community Centre. The commission will hear presentations regarding an application by the Pembina Valley Water Co-op to pipe water from Sandilands to Morris. Goertzen says councils in Steinbach, La Broquerie and Piney are understandably concerned about the proposal. He notes with the rapid growth of the Southeast region, councils must make sure there is an adequate water supply to meet demand. Goertzen tells us from what he's heard the municipalities will suggest strict limits be placed on the amount of water that can be drawn. The hearings take place Tuesday and Thursday. |
