Steinbach RCMP are advising the public to be on the lookout for bears after one was spotted early Tuesday morning in the southeast corner of the city.
Police say the call came in just before 5am of a bear wandering near Hespeler St. South and Mackenzie Avenue. Officers responded and scared the bear off into a heavily treed area. The detachment also contacted Manitoba Conservation.
They are reminding the public that bears are foraging for food at this time of year and residents shouldn't be leaving garbage out for extended periods of time. The same goes for dog or cat food, which is also an attractant.
Police are also asking people to report any bear sightings that could pose a hazard to the public.
More information is available on the Manitoba Conservation website and can be found HERE.
