A man from the La Broquerie area is facing charges after a fuel tanker was stolen early last Friday morning in the southern Pennsylvannia community of North York.
Police say 40 year-old Marc CJ Chartier has been charged with a number of offences including theft, fleeing and eluding police, aggravated assault and drunk driving. Investigators allege Chartier stole the semi and fled police for several miles before crashing into a guard rail. Police say the truck was driven directly at two police cars along the way. They add, at one point, officers had to veer away to avoid a head on collision.
After the truck crashed, police say the driver refused commands to get out and had to be removed by officers. Police say Chartier told them he had been staying at an area motel, went for some drinks, and was walking back to his room when he went past the tanker truck and decided to take it
At last word Chartier was being held on $25,000.00 bail.
Chartier is employed as a truck driver by a Winnipeg company.
