NDP Nominate Provencher Candidate

The Provencher NDP Electoral District Association nominated its candidate Sunday for the upcoming federal by-election.

Natalie Courcelles Beaudry is a Francophone mother of three, living in Lorette.

"I grew up in Ste.Agathe and I feel very connected to the community of Provencher," explains Courcelles Beaudry. "I have family and friends in every corner of it."

Courcelles Beaudry currently works in the constituency office of Dawson Trail MLA Ron Lemieux.

"I'm looking to be the candidate to be able to voice the concerns that I'm hearing on the ground in Provencher from the residents that seem to be following NDP guidelines and want to have a better Canada and change what's going on now," she says.

Courcelles Beaudry says what she's hearing is frustration with overspending in Ottawa.

"I'm hearing inappropriate spending, not for things that are important to us here in Manitoba in the southeast," she says. "I'm hearing the frustration being directed at Senate overspending and scandals and stuff like that. I'm hearing that it's time for change and as NDP we feel the same way."

Courcelles Beaudry has never before run for public office. She says the reason she's running is because people in her position are not being represented federally.

"It's going to take more mothers and more young people coming forward and being that voice because we don't always get heard through other voices," she says.

As for her priorities, Courcelles Beaudry says she's hoping bilingualism in Canada can take a huge step forward. Furthermore, she would like to see funding restored for the Provincial Nominee Program. Also, Courcelles Beaudry says economic growth is a priority and she says preserving the environment is very important to her.
