STARS Helicopter was in Steinbach on Saturday People in Steinbach and area may have noticed the STARS Air Ambulance in the area on Saturday morning. STARS spokesperson Cam Heke says they were called out for a patient transport. "That morning we flew out to Steinbach to receive a male adult patient who was experiencing a medical emergency. Our flight crews met up with ground EMS who took us from the airport to the hospital. We received the patient and transported him to St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg." Without going into specifics of the medical mission, Heke says they were able to provide services not available during an ambulatory transport. "Helicopter air ambulance certainly increases the speed of transportation. In addition to the speed, we can also bring out medical expertise on board the aircraft to assist with hospital staff and ground EMS. We can also bring out specialized equipment or even particular required medications." He adds the stars crew were very impressed with how efficiently the Steinbach EMS crews and hospital staff worked with them on this mission. "The Commander of the mission did want to say that the ground EMS staff as well as all the staff at the hospital were exceptional to work with, very professional and they just do a great job. He says it was a great working relationship throughout the whole mission." Due to privacy regulations, the exact details of the patient and his condition are unavailable. Heke says he remains in a Winnipeg hospital. Photo and video submitted by Candace Loewen
