The Steinbach Regional Secondary School produced a solid team effort and downed Crocus Plains 34-9 Friday in Brandon.

The SRSS defense forced a pair of fumbles, defensive lineman Lucas Thiessen had two quarterback sacks and defensive back Mack Dueck returned an interception for a touchdown.

As for the Sabres specialty teams – Wade Melnyk and Dakota Funk each blocked a punt and Eric Adams kicked field goals of 25 and 40 yards.

Patrick Maendel played his first game since suffering an ankle injury in week one.

Maendel ran the ball 11 times for 116 yards and caught three passes for 24 yards and a touchdown.

Quarterback CJ Knelsen completed 11-of-22 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns.

The Sabres improved to 4-1 in the Winnipeg High School Football League's Kas Vidruk Division.

The SRSS has two home games left in the regular season schedule. The Sabres will meet the Churchill Bulldogs on October 16th and the Vincent Massey Vikings of Brandon on October 23rd.
