It has it's fair share of short par four's and reachable par five's.

But beware – by no means should you think that the Oakwood golf course is like a walk in the park because of it's length.

For starters you may want to keep your golf ball in play at the 18-hole layout near Ste. Anne since you'll be dealing with trees guarding both sides of the fairway.

Staying out of the rough or the woods off the tee is always a good thing especially if those fairways bend a little left or right.

Greens superintendent Ken Bordynuik says the short grass suffered the most when he saw how the course had wintered.

"The fairways I would say were definitely more affected by snow mould - just the type of winter that we had but the greens and tees were protected very well."

Weather conditions have also been rather interesting during the month of May.

"I can honestly say that we had all four seasons in the last two weeks,” said Bordynuik. “There is an affect on the turf. Where the turf was starting to come around and really green up and thicken up, now it's been knocked back a little bit with the cold temperatures. Generally turf is pretty tough stuff and it's going to snap back as soon as the weather starts cooperating with us."

What Ken Bordynuik and every greens superintendent is waiting for is overnight temperatures around that 10 degrees celsius range or a bit warmer.

"That's when we're going to see everything explode and that's typical for May when all the flowers start coming out and everything's blooming and everybody's happy.”

It's never boring looking after a golf course.

"We always seem to be under construction, that's the joke around here,” Bordynuik said. “Irrigation upgrades is a constant. We're constantly doing drainage which really helps to keep us open and a much healthier turf.”

“We have a new tee box that's under construction right now. Our 13th tee box, it was quite long but narrow. It's more than double the size now so we're excited to get that finished in the next week or two. There's always cart path work we're working on. We're always looking at doing something."
