When the calendar flips from September to October - the countdown grudgingly begins.

It's just a matter of time before greens superintendents start preparing their golf course for a long winters nap and golfers are forced to put away their clubs and start looking for their curling brooms.

As for this golf season.

"2015 was a challenging year at best for weather," said Darren Dundas of the La Verendrye Golf Club in La Broquerie. "Extreme heat to extreme downpours from two-and-a-half to three-and-a-half inches in less than 24 hours. The course held up fantastic. The drainage we've been working on for the past 10 years has definitely come to fruition this year. Everything drained perfectly."

"It just seems like we started actually," said Dundas. "It really did. The season has gone by so fast this year for whatever reason - I'm not sure. It's all kind of gelled into one day this year."

Dundas won't know the total number of rounds played by members and green fee players until the 18-hole layout is shutdown for the season.

"It seems like traffic has been slightly above last year by all means even with the weather we've had this year. Time will tell. We'll figure that out at the end of the year whether numbers are up or down. I definitely know they're not down. They're definitely as good or even from last year."

Golfers will be able to play the La Verendrye golf course until snow stays on the ground.
